- Dr. Herbert Lipowsky has been appointed as co-editor-in-chief of the journal Biorheology.

- Mohammad Reza Abidian organzied the Symposium AA: Advanced Multifunctional Biomaterials for Neuroprosthetic Interfaces at the Materials Research Society Spring 2014 meeting.
- Mohammad Reza Abidian was awarded a single-PI NIH R01 grant for 5 years.
- Nanyin Zhang launched the website for the Translational Neuroimaging and Systems Neuroscience Lab.
- Jian Yang was appointed as an associate editor for "Frontiers in Biomaterials".
- The article "Design Strategies for Flourescent Biodegradable Polymeric Biomaterials" co-authored by Jian Yang was selected as the Most Accessed Manuscript for 2013 for the Journal of Materials Chemistry B.
- William Hancock was named a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. An article on Penn State News "Hancock named American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering fellow" is available.
- The article on Penn State News "Experiments show hypothesis of microtubule steering accurate" features collaborating research from the Hancock Lab.
- Research by the Majd Lab was featured on the front cover of the December 17, 2013 issue of Advanced Materials. The Article was titled "A Simple and Versatile Method for the Formation of Arrays of Giant Vesicles with Controlled Size and Composition"
- Research on the use of enzymes as nanomotors by Peter Butler and Ayusman Sen (Chemistry Department) was featured in episode 6 of ACS Breakthrough Science.
- William Hancock and Sheereen Majd co-organized the Biophysical Society Regional Meeting at Penn State on Oct 4, 2013.
- Cheng Dong was elected as secretary of the Council of Chairs of Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering. The one year term began Jan 1, 2014.
- Abidian Lab article featured on cover of Advanced Materials. Article titled "Microencapsulation: Microencapsulation of Chemotherapeutics into Monodisperse and Tunable Biodegradable Polymers via Electrified Liquid Jets: Control of Size, Shape and Drug Release" also in PSU News article "Microencapsulation produces uniform drug release vehicle."
- Sheereen Majd received a $150,000 New Investigator grant from the Kaufman Foundation for "Functional Studies of Multidrug Resistance Tranporters at Single-Protein Level."
- Research from the Majd Lab was featured in the article "A Model for the Interfacial Kinetics of Phospholipase D Activity on Long-Chain Lipids" in the July 2, 2013 issue of the Biophysical Journal. Cover art from her lab was also selected for this issue.
