2013 BMES Annual Meeting
The annual Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) meeting was held on Sep. 25-28, 2013 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA. The meeting included scientific sessions, posters, career and professional development sessions, exhibits for graduate schools and BME company representatives. A resume review critique workshop helped the attendees build stronger and more effective resumes for job searchers. Several companies and institutes at the meeting invited students for interviews with interesting job opportunities.
About 20 faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduate students of the Penn State biomedical engineering (BME) department attended the meeting. About nine students were selected to present their research at the meeting, while others used the opportunity for networking and learning about current BME research. All attending BME faculty members, graduate and undergraduate students participated in promoting the Penn State biomedical engineering department to potential applicants at the exhibition booth. A few students attended the many social events including the Women in Biomedical Engineering Luncheon and the Celebration of Minorities in BME, which offered networking possibilities with other BME professionals.
The conference provided faculty and student attendees with a great opportunity to learn about frontier BME research and available job opportunities in academia and industry. Most importantly, they were able to interact with other professionals in their field and share their experiences.
The 2014 Biomedical Engineering Society Annual Meeting will be in San Antonio, TX; faculty and students are encouraged to attend.
