Penn State Biomedical Engineering Faculty Organize Biophysical Society Regional Meeting
The third Pennsylvania Regional Biophysical Society Networking Meeting was hosted by Penn State University on Oct. 4, 2013. This regional prelude to the Biophysical Society Annual Meeting provided an opportunity for Penn State students to interact and network with professors, postdocs, and other students from prominent universities across the northeast. Penn State graduate and undergraduate students from multiple departments, including biomedical engineering, gave poster presentations to other researchers interested in biophysics, biochemistry, and biomedical engineering. "Giving a poster presentation of my research was an excellent opportunity," said Scott Chen, a second year bioengineering graduate student, "I was able to explain my results to others in the field and got many new ideas through the questions they asked me." Longer oral presentations were given by distinguished faculty members and postdocs in areas including biomechanics, biopolymers, motor proteins, optogenetics, and cell migration. The event was organized by Dr. William Hancock and Dr. Sheereen Majd, both of the Penn State biomedical engineering department. Funding for the event was provided by the Biophysical Society, the Graduate School at Penn State, the Huck Institute of the Life Sciences, and the Materials Research Institute at Penn State.
