About the Department

The Penn State Department of Biomedical Engineering is one of the fastest-growing departments in the College of Engineering. Our curriculum is built upon the apex of engineering, medicine, health care policy, and biological discovery. We prepare our students to become future leaders in the areas of medical device design, instrumentation, medical imaging, health care management, biomedical research, and academia.

We offer undergraduate degree programs and graduate degree programs in biomedical engineering. Our faculty hold primary appointments in the Eberly College of Science and the Colleges of Earth and Mineral Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
