Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative Medicine involves the integration of cell and molecular biology with biomaterials science and engineering to develop strategies and materials for the repair or regeneration of damaged or diseased tissues and organs. At Penn State, there are current research efforts exploring the geometry of biomaterial substrates for the directed differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells down musculoskeletal lineages. Additionally, research efforts are exploring the development of novel biomaterial scaffolds for cardiovascular and neural applications.
