Lu and Xiao awarded 'Best of Session' paper at American Urological Association Convention

05/09/2016

Yi Lu and Yuan Xiao, postdoctoral researchers in Pak Kin Wong's Systematic Bioengineering Laboratory, were recently awarded "Best of Session Paper" at the 2016 American Urological Association Annual Convention in San Diego, CA. The pair were recognized for their work titled "A Microfiltration Device for Urogenital Schistosomiasis Diagnostics."

The American Urological Association Annual Convention is one of the largest and most prestigious urology scientific meetings in the world with over 20,000 professionals in attendance annually.

Lu and Xiao were recognized for their work in which they designed a microfluidic approach for rapid Schistosoma haematobium diagnostics in resource limited settings. Their results demonstrated that a microfluidics device can be used to more efficiently trap and separate S. haematobium eggs in urine, enabling a novel approach for urogenital schistosomiasis diagnostics.
