08/30/2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa—Siu Ling “Pansy” Leung, instructor in biomedical engineering at Penn State, has been appointed as the undergraduate program coordinator for the Department of Biomedical Engineering, effective September 1, 2016.

As undergraduate program coordinator, Leung will provide advising support, curriculum guidance and career counseling to advance the needs of the department’s growing undergraduate cohort. She succeeds Maggie Slattery, who was recently named interim director and assistant dean of the Office for General Education, a new unit in Undergraduate Education at Penn State.

“My undergraduate years were some of the most treasured memories in my life,” Leung said. “During those years I chose my career specialty and built lasting connections. As the new undergraduate program coordinator, I wish to create an active and engaging learning environment for students and provide them with the tools necessary to successfully prepare for the future.”

Leung accepts the position after serving as both a research associate and instructor in the department last year. She has taught several undergraduate courses including Biothermodynamics, Numerical Simulation in Biomedical Engineering and Biomedical Mechanics and Techniques Laboratory.

She earned a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Philosophy degree in automation and computer aided engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2006 and 2009, respectively and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in aerospace and mechanical engineering from the University of Arizona in 2013.

As the undergraduate program coordinator, Leung looks forward to interacting with students on a daily basis and helping them navigate through what may be some of the most challenging and exciting years of their lives.

“I had a wonderful experience building relationships with Penn State students last year and look forward to expanding my network this fall and in the years to come,” she said.

Leung will be located in 206 Hallowell Building. She can be reached by phone (814) 865-8092 or email for undergraduate program inquiries and appointment requests.
